The Genesis of Pala Island
Born from a 2011 journey through the coastal landscapes of California and revived in the urban grit of Glasgow in 2024, Pala Island is more than a studio—it is an autonomous creative ecosystem.
The name is a serendipitous fusion: a play on the artist’s surname (Za-pala), a nod to the solitary nature of the creator as an Island, and an accidental homage to the utopian society in Aldous Huxley’s Island. In Huxley’s "Pala," society lives in a state of heightened awareness and ecological harmony. Today, Pala Island serves as a hub for conscious living, connecting the raw labor of tree surgery with the meditative process of painting. It is an invitation to respect the planet, its flora, and the rhythms of our own existence.
